MINDY SAND, SINCE 2001

"As a designer/craftsman, I find most of my inspiration from things which surround me every day. I create functional, decorative objects that are both beautiful and useful." - Mindy

I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, " The Glass Capital of the World" and spent many Saturdays taking art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. I continued my interest in art at The Ohio State University where I got a degree in art education. I taught high school art for 9 years in Ohio. After teaching, I continued my art education at Oregon College of Arts and Crafts and Kent State University.

I started painting on glass when I was introduced to the glass paint at the annual Ohio Art Education Conference. Experimenting with my students, I started making colorful glassware and selling it in the teachers lounge. It was a big hit and I have been making my glassware ever since.

As a designer-craftsman, I find most of my inspiration from objects I am surrounded by everyday. I am drawn to the simplicity of design, originality and the visibility of the handmade elements. I create functional and decorative objects that are both beautiful and useful.

CREATING ART GLASS FOR THE MODERN HOME BAR AND TABLE

I'm inspired by the simplicity of lines, shapes, patterns and designs. My glassware collection is a contemporary twist on the great artists of the 20th century, including Frank Lloyd wright, Mondrian and Vasarely.

Each piece of glass is hand painted in a series of steps using permanent glass paint. I then fire the piece at a low temperature which creates durable surface good for every day use, as well as a presentation beautiful enough to be added to fine china for a stylish evening of entertaining.

The Collection is dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended.

The collection of my art glass is available in limited editions, as each piece is hand painted, signed and dated.
